Pedersen Associates created a lush yet low maintenance, drought-tolerant landscape for this new auto dealership. Small flowering perimeter trees and masses of evergreen flowering shrubs and ground covers are used to screen and break up the parking area. A shaded walkway meanders through a 10' pedestrian easement to allow access for the rear parcels and San Rafael Canal. The focus of the design is a central entry and display plaza, slightly elevated for visual prominence. Using special paving and contrasting bands, a modular hardscape design creates organized spaces for several cars to be displayed, leaving a wide central promenade to the front doors framed by pots of colorful flowers. The plaza is framed by tall specimen palms which enhance the mission-like character of the architecture while allowing open views into the glazed showroom.
