As part of the design team
for the redesigned corporate center, Pedersen Associates was committed
to creating an inviting urban landscape with
a higher level of sustainability. A series of eleven sloped elements
(known as "bioswales") were designed to allow pollutants
to filter out of roof water run-off before flowing into the San Francisco
Bay. The integration of cutting-edge conservation techniques, coupled
with the use of native and drought-tolerant shrubs, grasses, sedges
and succulents, resulted in a rich and welcoming landscape that exceeds
the Marin Municipal Water District's water use standards.
